Letter
Dear Department of Education,
We are 4 students from Moanalua High School and want to talk about longer school days.
Regarding the bill SB 2922, there are some changes we would like to propose. First off we would like you to reconsider making the school days longer. Many students are having trouble getting a healthy amount of sleep at night, longer school days meaning less time to finish homework. Even student-athletes are up late almost every night trying to finish homework and projects. Also since school days are longer, when sports have games or events during school they miss much more school. This gives the student-athletes more stress after a long day. Our suggestion is to allow schools to go back to the old schedules. Students were only required to take six classes and received homework for these six classes. Extending the school days had added another class to students schedules which also includes more homework after the even longer school days. This is causing majority of the students to start to lose many hours of sleep and come to school tired more often. If we revert back to the old schedules students will be able to complete all the work that needs to be done and come to school well rested.
Sincerly,

13-21 Reading Review
1. Katniss and Rue come up with a plan to destroy the Careers' food supply by distracting them and then ambushing their camp. While Rue is distracting the Careers', Katniss realizes that there are explosive mines where their camp is and if anything touches the area, it will trigger an explosion or a chain of explosions. Katniss risks her life to trigger the mine under the Careers' camp and destroys their food supplies and everything else they had for survival. When Katniss goes to the place where she was supposed to meet Rue, she's not there so she goes in search of Rue. She ends up finding her trapped in a net and sees the killing of Rue. It's a plus and minus for Katniss; Plus:she has more supplies and the Careers don't. Minus: Katniss' ally is dead.
Quotes:
- "I cut Rue's pack from her back as well, knowing she'd want me to have it but leave the spear in her stomach" (Page 236)
2. When Katniss finds out about the new rule, she goes to search for Peeta. She finds Peeta camouflaged in leaves and mud, but with many wounds and a fever. Their "romance" continues with Katniss searching for ways to keep Peeta alive, and takes care of him even though he can't do much because he's dying.
Quotes:
- "For two tributes to have a shot at winning, our "romance" must be so popular with the audience that condemning it would jeopardize the success of the Games." (Page 247)
- "Only I keep wishing I could think of a way to.. to show the Capitol they don't own me that I'm more than just a piece in their Games." (Page 236)
3. When Katniss tries to reach for the bag with "12" on it, she almost gets hit with a knife but as Clove throws again, it slits the skin above Katniss' eyebrow. Clove then tackles Katniss to the ground and slits the skin around Katniss' mouth. Thresh then hears Clove talking about how she killed Rue. Thresh got upset and killed Clove and didn't harm Katniss, when she told him that she tried to save Rue. Katniss leaves with the bag with "12" and inside the bag would be the medicine for Peeta's leg.
Quotes:
- "We're going to kill you, just like we did your pathetic little ally... what was her name? The one who hopped around in the trees? Rue? Well, first Rue, then you and then I think we'll just let nature take care of Lover Boy. How does that sound?" (Page 285)
- "Clove is dangling a foot off the ground, imprisoned in Thresh's arms." (Page 286)
- " Thresh brings the rock down hard against Clove's temple. It's not bleeding, but I can see the dent in her skull and I know that she's a goner." (Page 287)
- "Just this one time, I let you go. For the little girl." (Page 288)
4. Katniss' attitude is more genuine as she cares for Peeta. Peeta says, "You go and I'm going, too"(Page275) "It's sleep syrup. It's a common medicine in District 12. Cheap, a medicine goes, but very addictive."(Page 275) "I mash up a handful of berries so the taste won't be as noticeable and add one mint leaves for good measure."says Katniss. (Page 277) Peeta says, "'They're sweet as syrup... syrup.' His eyes widen as he realizes the truth". (Page 277) "I can see in his eyes what I'e done is unforgivable." says Katniss. (Page 277). Katniss doesn't want to risk seeing Peeta get hurt even more, or worse, die. Obviously, Katniss cares a lot for Peeta if she doesn't want him to die. "Im careful to leave Peeta with water and the medical kit right beside him." (Page 280) Just in case Peeta wakes up before Katniss gets back to the cave, he'll have some things to keep the pain from worsening. Katniss is that type of girl that's very cautious about people, especially those who are in the hunger games; and if she wanted to win, she would've killed Peeta on the spot. These acts of kindness from Katniss, proves that she does really care for Peeta and his safety.
